Work package 3: Evaluation of existing methods of organic market data collection

In work package 3, a number of evaluation and quality criteria for data collection and compilation methods will be defined. The survey results on all existing organic market data collection and compilation methods in Europe will be classified according to a number of criteria. This is the prerequisite for the overall evaluation of the existing data collection methods in terms of coverage and comprehensiveness. The overall evaluation will include identified gaps. These results will be intensively discussed with Eurostat and interested national data collectors in workshop 1 (see WP1).

Furthermore, the compatibility of the existing data collection methods in Europe will be analysed to answer the question of whether and how the different national data can be merged into European statistics. Eurostat has already made an attempt to compile EU statistics on datasets, such as the number of organic farms, the volume of organic areas differentiated by main crops and the volume of organic animal stocks. However, statistics of Eurostat do not meet the requirements to deliver data on consumption volumes, or import and export volumes of organic products for important organic agricultural products, which was postulated by the former EISfOM project consortium.

Leader of work package 3 is Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hamm, Kassel University.
